17th INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE EXHIBITION 22/05 – 21/11 (vernissage 20+21/05)
La Biennale Architettura 2020 will take place at Venice’s Giardini and Arsenale from May 22nd to November 21st 2021. These gardens in the east of Venice have been the traditional venue for the International Art Exhibition since 1895. They were laid out during the Napoleonic era, on land that had once been occupied by a district that included four churches and three convents. The area hosts the Central Pavilion and a further 29 national pavilions, built at various periods by the participating countries themselves. Several pavilions in the Gardens were designed and built by famous architects.
The curator of the 17th International Exhibition is Hashim Sarkis.
The theme of the event chosen by Sarkis is “HOW WILL WE LIVE TOGETHER?”
“We need a new spatial contract. In the context of widening political divides and growing economic inequalities, we call on architects to imagine spaces in which we can generously live together,” reads Sarkis’ Statement.
